  1. High Impact Event Review Process NOAA/NWS Glasgow, MT - Steven L. Apfel, Meteorologist-In-Charge A HIGH IMPACT EVENT (HIE) is a locally significant event where the community, local customer, or an economic sector is substantially affected and/or mitigating actions are necessary; and the opportunity exists for the NWS to take a DECISION SUPPORT ACTION (DSA). A DECISION SUPPORT ACTION (DSA) occurs when the NWS takes an active role to enhance NWS products/services for use by decision makers during HIEs, such as: - Changing priority focus - Redirecting (ramping up) operations - Initiating briefings (GoToMeetings/Outreach) - Above and beyond daily routine (but a part of office culture) • Active Decision Supportrequires moving beyond the static post mortem process to a dynamic event review process from start to finish: • HIE Coordination: How did we prepare and coordinate? GoToMeetings, E-mail, Text, Phone • HIE Post Review: What was our scientific process? Active Post Mortems, Science Sharing • HIE Feedback: What did our partners & customers think? Surveys, Comments, Suggestions • HIE Report: DSS effectiveness?
