Next steps with EGEE EGEE training community This file is a basis for a talk to be given in an induction course. It requires additional information to be added, information that is specific to a location.
Outline • Continuing with GILDA • Joining a production VO • Optional: Local VOs • Proposing a new VO • Support: communities, documents, manuals, mailing lists,etc.
Remember • To be authorized to use EGEE and do useful work with it (e.g. submit jobs, transfer files, collaborate) you have to belong to a Virtual Organization (VO) • To join a VO you must first obtain a Grid certificate • After the course: • You can get a certificate from GILDA CA and join GILDA VO:to gain more experience with EGEE technology (process takes ~2 days) • You can get a certificate from an EGEE CA and join a production VO: to participate in national or international collaborations ~ one week • You can propose and establish a new VO~ few months of coordinated effort across sites

Using GILDA • Login to the official (or the backup) GILDA UI: • glite-tutor.ct.infn.it(andglite-tutor2.ct.infn.it) • SSH is firewalled Send a ticket to GILDA admins to enable SSH for your IP: http://gilda-support.ct.infn.it/ • Install your own UI: • User interface “Plug & Play” – no root privileges needed: https://gilda.ct.infn.it/UIPnP.html • User interface in VMWare – one of GILDA Virtual Services: https://gilda.ct.infn.it/VirtualServices.html • Open a web browser and access GILDA through • gLite Tutor: https://glite-tutor.ct.infn.it • P-GRADE Portal: http://portal.p-grade.hu/gilda
Getting access to a production VO • Getting your EGEE certificate: • List of CAs recognized by EGEE sites: http://www.eugridpma.org/members/worldmap/Find the CA nearest to you and request a user certificate • User certificates are valid typically for 1 year • Finding and Joining a VO: • Begin with a local VO – next slide • Or else the NA4 activity portal http://egeena4.lal.in2p3.fr/
Introduce the registration policies of local VOs • List any local Registration authorities for national CAs

To begin with: • register the VO with EGEE • get access to resources (voms, CE, storage, lfc, rb) • NOTE: VOs bring these to the EGEE infrastructure!!! • have those sites be configured • Supported by Regional Operations Centres
