  1. Fostering Communication between Researchers and Faculty for SLO Implementation Session Description:When asked about challenges that would prevent colleges from reaching proficiency on the accreditation SLO rubric by 2012, researchers and faculty identified four common issues: ensuring the quality of the SLO process, managing sustainability, creating widespread and inclusive dialog and ensuring that SLO results are used to inform improvement strategies. Strong partnerships between researchers and faculty could help address a number of these concerns. This session will offer two case studies about how researcher-faculty collaborations have improved SLO implementation and then engage you in a discussion of how to build effective communications and partnerships at your own institution. Marcy Alancraig, SLO Coordinator and Faculty, Cabrillo College; Robert Pacheco, Dean, Research, Planning, Barstow College; Cathy Hasson, Director, Institutional Research and Planning, San Diego Community College District; Gregory Stoup, Director, Research & Planning and Student Success, Canada College; Linda Umbdenstock, The RP Group

  2. Outcomes The What! Brainstorm the varying roles that researchers play in assessment on campuses and the varying skill-sets that are possessed. Self-assess their communication skills and learning assessment knowledge and recognize the areas of challenge in these areas at the colleges. Dialogue about the communication challenges of challenges and identify possible solutions

  5. Look Within Take a moment to self-assess your knowledge and skills in assessment as your ability to communicate with other professionals interpersonally… not a test, but something to spark reflection…
