  3. Grading • Grades are based on the accumulation of points. • Points are based on: • Completion of assignments or quizes • 3 Major exams, 100 points each • Grades are posted in Angel online and updated Sunday after the deadline. • Our Grading Scale • 90-100% = A • 80-89% = B • 70-79% = C • 60-69% = D • Below 60% = F • Grades are calculated on cumulative percentage

  4. Very Important: • Exam: Tests are administered in the testing center. • There will be 3 exams each worth 100 points will be administered. • ZERO is given for any test taken during class lectures. • In addition, failure to take the test at the scheduled week results in loss of 10% points reduction for each week for that test. • Quizzes: There are 10 quizzes or assignments, 10 points each. • Attendance: There will be awarded 4 points for each full class attendance. • TI83/84-Graphing Calculator is required for this course.

  5. TENTATIVE COURSE TIME LINE (subject to change as the semester progresses) • Module One: Topics 1 – 10 • Test 1: week of Apr 19 • Module Two: Topics 11 – 20 • Test 2: week of May 3 • Module Three: Topics 21 - 29 • Test 3: in class May 8

Student Behaviors • Be prompt • Be ready to learn when class begins. • Be prepared • Have materials with you and know due dates. • Be a polite and positive participant • Speak in a normal tone of voice, and listen attentively. • Be productive • Turn in work on time, and always do your best. • Be a problem solver • Correct problems quickly and peacefully before they escalate.

  7. Responsibility for Coursework • Bring notebook, textbook, planner, TI83 or TI84 graphing calculator , and appropriate writing tools to class. • Know due dates, and submit all coursework on time. • All assignments are listed on the course syllabus

  8. Policies • Food and beverages are allowed in the classroom, clean after yourself before leaving the classroom. • Test , Assignments and Projects can be submitted late. They will be scored at a 10% deduction. • Absences • Ask team members or a classmate for assignments.

Calculator Introduction • Different design Calculators are now available for TI83’s. • Regardless of the design, you should be able to find about 5 different color buttons. • In the picture; • Off white keys: Number Keys • Blue keys: • Function keys on the top • Direction key- top left • Operation keys (+, -,* and /) • Yellow key - 2nd Key  • You have to press this key first before using the yellow text of the face of the calculator • Green key - Alpha Key  • You have to press this key first before using the green text of the face of the calculator • Black keys

Some of the important keys you need to knowYou need to install TI83 plus fonts to see the key strokes • Different between “(-)”  and “–”  keys • Minus –  Key is used for subtraction • (-)  key is used for indicating the sign of the number • See the difference in the picture •  Enter key – used as “=“ or process an operation • Open and closed parenthesis “(“and “)”  • Comma Key  • Math key * • to quit any menu or operation press [QUIT] by pressing  keys • Clear key  • Stat key  * • VARS Key – * • DISTR  Key press  * • Stat Plot press 2nd Y=   • Window  • Zoom  • Graph  • Matrix  - 2nd x-1   • 2nd x2  will give you square root * Menu Keys

  13. MENU keys, some keys are considered as menu keys “STAT” key  STAT Key – When you press the STAT key , you will get multi menu and options to go from one section to another press right arrow key from your calculator. Use the down arrow key  to see all the option within each section.

  15. MENU keys, some keys are considered as menu keys  key Stat Plot Key – . Press key to view the plotting option 1. You can turn ON and OFF all the Stat-graph you have done with is menu. WHEN finished turn all the plots to OFF status. (option 4 from Stat plots menu.
