  1. The Durability Test: Which is Better Ductile Iron Pipe or PVCO Pipe? When it comes to installing the irrigation or watering system, a common dilemma that arises is whether to install the ductal iron pipes or PVCO pipes. A short comparison between the ductile iron pipes and PVCO pipes shows the pros and durable nature of both the varieties. Design Ductile Pipes: The Ductile Iron Pipes or the DI Pipes has a flexible conduit. It is designed to withhold both external and internal pressures. PVCO Pipes PVCO Pipes or the molecularly oriented polyvinyl chloride pipes has a similar flexible conduit. However, when it comes to pressure management, the external pressure is not standardized. External Load Design: Ductile Iron Pipes The external load design of DI pipes has prism load plus truck load. The ring bending stress is limited to 48,000 psi. It has a deflection rate of 3% outside the diameter. PVCO Pipes The external load design has a prism load plus truck load. It has no deflection rates or safety factors. Safety Factor: Ductile Iron Pipes The Ductile Iron Pipes has a pressure design of 2.0 and a minimum tensile yield strength of 42,000 psi. The external load design has 2.0 for bending, which is based on the minimum ultimate ring bending strength of 96,000 psi, or 1.5 for bending, which is based on the minimum ring yield bending strength of 72,000 psi. The design ensures complete safety, which is higher than the nominal safety protocols. PVCO Pipes The pressure design has 2.5 ratings based on Hydrostatic Design Basis of 7,100 psi. The external load design has no safety factors. The safety factors and strength takes into account temperatures, surface scratches, and extended exposure to sunlight.

  2. Apart from these primary factors, there are several other factors such as hydrostatic testing, factory testing, the trench conditions, pressure class ratings and more gives and even in-depth knowledge and information about DI pipes and PVCO pipes. The overall comparison reveals that the Ductile Iron Pipes has more than 10 times the tensile strength of PVCO pipes. It is important to compare the durability and the strength of the pipes since the more durable the pipes are the longer it will last and provide maximum benefit.
