  1. Introduction The need for improvement in education is hardly debatable. The general school library situation in South Africa is far from satisfactory. Working together as a collective is our best and only chance of exploring and developing solutions that will transform the lives of millions of learners.

MISSION • Make access to libraries a societal priority • Demystify library costs • Thinking Smaller-in larger volumes • Finding a Middle Ground “More Product, Less Process” VISION • All learners in South Africa are information literate and have lifelong learning skills enabling them to live as responsible and informed citizens • Roll-out 2014 • Annual target = 6 000 mobile trolley libraries OBJECTIVES • Supports National Literacy Strategies • Introduces texts to pupils and teachers • Increases pupils’ enjoyment of reading • Encourages wider reading • Develops pupils’ effective and critical response to texts • Stimulates writing skills
