6. HISTORY The university was established on 12th July 1960. The name of the university was changed from Bhagalpur University to Tilak Majhi University in 1991. The university has since developed its existing infrastructure. The university derives its name from a great Indian freedom fighter Tilak Manjhi who in the 80’s attacked the oppressive British Government and later was killed by the British Government.
