  1. Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope GLAST Large Area Telescope: Particle Test “Roadmap to Integration” March 9th, 2004 Gary Godfrey SU-SLAC Sub-sub-system Manager godfrey@slac.stanford.edu 650-926-2919

  2. The Equipment • Van de Graff • 100% uptime during EM test • Typically 1 x 103g/sec into 4p ster • BGO Monitor • 100% uptime during EM test • Cosmic Ray Scintillator Telescope (24” x 24”) • 100% uptime during EM test

  3. Van de Graff EM Results • BGO spectra • VG off (blue) – see cosmics • VG on (red) – see g’s + cosmics • EM sees photons • Tracks point back at target • EM effic for g is as expected • EM psf is as expected # of gs 1 10 100 g Energy [Mev] ~0° Effic = g per steradian seen in EM g per steradian seen in BGO = 1200/(.02 x 2p ster) 1152 sec x 13.35 Hz /(.15 ster) = .093 ± .01 (due to ±5% BGO dist error) q68 Measured = acos(.88) = 28° (at 0°) q95 Measured = acos(.46) = 63° (at 0°) qtarget ~ (.75”/2.0”) x (180/p) = 21° q68 EM PSF ~ sqrt(q68 Measured2 -qtarget2) = 21° q95 EM PSF ~ sqrt(q95 Measured2 -qtarget2) = 59° Where Tracks Pass Through Target Plane

  4. Van de Graff Rates Van de Graff has been upgraded to VG2 which has oil free Turbo and Scroll pumps. The interior has also been cleaned of all residual oil. VG2 should be able to saturate EM2 and LAT trigger rates.

  5. Summary of Data to Be Taken “End Too End Test Committee” report will cause this table to be modified.

  6. Procedures to be Written

  7. Spare Parts Ordering

  8. Verification of Equipment Readiness
