COIL POTTERY. Before the Pottery wheel people used coils to create pottery. In fact, coil pots are the oldest pottery we know of. Today people create many things using coils. They can be very large. Or small. For our coil project we will be creating an Asymmetrical design.

  2. Before the Pottery wheel people used coils to create pottery.

  3. In fact, coil pots are the oldest pottery we know of.

  4. Today people create many things using coils.

  5. They can be very large. Or small.

  6. For our coil project we will be creating an Asymmetrical design. NOT symmetrical! ASYMMETRICAL!!!

  7. Let’s Begin . . . 1. Start with a base. Any shape will do. 2. Roll your coils.

  8. 3. Put on the coils. Score and slip coils together. 4. Smooth inside for additional strength.

  9. You can smooth parts of the outside. But leave some areas where you can see decorative coils.

  10. Have fun with the shape of the vase. But Remember, It should be a minimum of 12 inches high total (You could do two 6 inch pots, or three 4inch pots).

  11. Be creative with the decorative coils. (you can also use balls of clay and Irregular-shaped or flattened coils.)

  12. Fire and Enjoy your Vase.
