  3. Where do you get your energy from? • Heterotrophs – organisms that get energy from foods they eat. Examples: Animals, Fungi • Autotrophs – organisms that make their own food. Examples: Plants

  10. What do Cells use ATP for? Cells can use ATP for: • Active transport • Making proteins • Making DNA • Responding to stimuli

  11. How much ATP do you think Cells have Stored? ONLY A SMALL AMOUNT!! ATP can only store small amounts of energy, so organisms only keep a small amount of ATP ready. To get more ATP when needed, we use energy from foods (like glucose) to turn more ADP into ATP. P P P

  12. Photosynthesis: Making Glucose • Photosynthesis – process that uses sunlight to convert water and carbon dioxide into sugars and oxygen. CO2 + H2O ------- > C6H12O6 + O2 Carbon dioxide + water  sugars + oxygen
