First Term Students in Computer Science (total) • 7,093 Beginners in 1992 • 16,810 Beginners in 2000 • Fall in the number of beginners to 8,844 in 2007 • After Dotcom-Crash: Number of beginners back to normal? Beginners in the Study Program Media Informatics (total) • Study program of a highly dynamic development • Low starting value of 29 beginners in 1992 (=Index 100) • Dramatic rise up to 1,067 beginners in 2000 (=Index 3,679.81) • After 2000 continued upward trend to 1,761 in 2007 (=Index 6,072.41) • Interpretation: • The Dotcom-Crash did not slow down the dynamic progress of this study program. +3579.31% Quelle: Bundesamt für Statistik

Beginners Business Informatics (total) • Between 1992 and 2000 a tremendous increase in the number of beginners in this study program from 1,377 to 5,325 • Betweeen 2000 and 2007 a decline in the number of beginners by about 8.6% • Interpretation: • The tremendous increase in the number of beginners between 1992 and 2000 passed the Dotcom-Crash without considerable damage. +286,71% Quelle: Bundesamt für Statistik

Beginners in Informatics: Proportion of Women • In Informatics the proportion of women to total of beginners is relatively low. • Women‘s share increased from 12.25 % to 17.27 % from 1992 to 2000 • Between 2000 and 2007 the share declined again to 13.56 %. • Possible further questions: • Is the development of the proportion of women significant before or after the Dotcom-Crash in 2000? Topic: Trend of the Job Market for IT Professionals in Germany since 2000 • Second question: • How has the number of employed and unemployed IT professionals progressed since 2000? • Answer: • The employment of graduate IT professionals has increased inspite of the Dotcom-Crash. • Between 2000 and 2004 the number of unemployed IT graduates increased strongly but afterwards declined again.
