  1. Latest Regulations for Import of Truffle Species in India Food Safety and Standard Authority of India or FSSAI is one of the leading organizations in India offering state of the art solutions for food safety and standards. It is responsible for providing food licenses and registration certificates to all food business operators to ensure that only hygienic and good quality food is being served. FSSAI is responsible for laying down science-based standards for all kinds of marketed food items and regulates their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import. This is done to make sure that only safe and wholesome food is being served to all citizens of India. It also plays an important role in the promotion of food safety as well as nutrition in India. FSSAI has recently framed new standards for the import "edible fungi products" or the truffle species in the latest food safety and standards regulations. Only a few of truffle species are edible, and the fssai regulations are implemented for the same. What are truffle species and what is so special about them? Well! Truffles are also called the diamond of the kitchen and are one of the highly revered fungi. It possesses the power to make any food super delicious. It is quite surprising how something that is found in such dirt has so much of ‘taste bud-superpower’ but yes, it does. www.foodsafetymantra.com

  2. As a matter of fact, truffles are one of the most expensive food items in the market. For example, A kilogram of Europen White Truffle can cost you around 5 lakh rupees. A two-pound white truffle was sold for around 2.1 crores in 2012. Just to give you an idea! This little fungus is just superb and highly incredible. In various cultures, this edible species of truffle are held in very high esteem and is reserved as a super delicacy. They are the fruiting body of the subterranean fungus. These funguses are found around the roots of various trees. Truffles can also be cultivated but their domestication is a little difficult. They are harvested agriculturally and are too hard to grow and find. FSSAI rule for edible truffle species In the year 2015, it was observed by FSSAI that there was an absence of any standardized list of edible truffle species. Truffles were too costly on the market, and were a luxury food. Therefore, FSSAI worked on it with the close association of Scientific Panel on Fruits and Vegetables to prepare a list of the edible truffle species. FSSAI under the recommendations of the Scientific Panel on Fruits and Vegetables have made some regulations for import of edible truffle species in 2019. Following is a list of some of the edible species of truffle that are allowed for import in India. ●Tuber Macrosporum Vittadini ●Tuber magnatum Pico ●Tuber borchii Vittadini www.foodsafetymantra.com
