  1. Programs and Activities 2007-08

  2. What is the role of faith in scouting?

  3. Lord Robert Baden-Powell – the Founder of Scouting Baden-Powell laid down three basic principles of Scouting in 1907: Duty to God Duty to Others Duty to Self When asked where religion came into Scouting and Guiding, Baden-Powell replied "It is already there. It is a fundamental factor underlying Scouting and Guiding."

  4. Juliette Low – Founder of Girl Scouts USA Juliette Low met Baden- Powell in England and was inspired to bring scouting to girls in the US in 1912. She likewise included the three basic principles of scouting, which are embodied in the Girl Scout promise to: *Serve God and my country, *To help people at all times, * To live by the Girl Scout Law.

  5. Religious emblem programs also enhance the Camp Fire program. Luther and Charlotte Gulick, founders of Camp Fire Girls in 1910, which later became Camp Fire USA in 1975, stated this as the goal of Camp Fire: "The primary purpose of Camp Fire is to promote service to others, team work, and opportunities for a well rounded life — a vivid, intense life of joy and service." — Dr. Luther Halsey Gulick

  6. The NCCSGCF is a Management Committee within the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry.

  7. The NCCGSCF objectives are *to interact with GSUSA and Camp Fire USA to encourage the spiritual development of the youth served by these programs *to promote the Catholic Religious Recognition Programs for Girl Scouts and Camp Fire. *to provide a network for the leaders in the 14 Regions of the NFCYM to share news and ideas. Members of the Management Committee met in Little Rock AR, Jan. 2008

  8. Religious Emblems

  20. How Can My Scout(s) Earn a Religious Award?

  21. Check with your diocese’s Catholic Scouting/Youth Ministry Office or Catholic Scouting Committee to find out about requirements for earning awards in your diocese. Your diocesan office may also offer special activities, trainings, retreats, award ceremonies, etc. for scouts and counselors. Let the office know when you begin your award program!

  22. The workbooks for the Religious Emblems (medals) are obtained from the online store (orders may also be faxed or mailed in) of the National Catholic Committee for Girl Scouts and Camp Fire, which is a committee of the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry, www.nfcym.org

  23. ALL MEDALS must be ordered through an authorized purchase agent for your diocese. Your local diocesan Catholic Scouting or Youth Ministry Office is usually the purchase agent (or can tell you who is!) Remember that diocesan purchase agents may have medals in stock, but if they need to order medals, it will take them 5-6 weeks to get the medals to you. Please keep this in mind when you plan your schedule for earning the medals!!
