  2. What does Cataloguing Department do? • Cataloguing Department is responsible for cataloguing and classifying library materials and ensuring access through e-catalogue ESTER • Department handles: • printed materials • CD-ROMs • electronic resources

  3. What does Cataloguing Department do? • Department catalogues and classifies: • new items and retrospectively old books and journals • articles in Database of Estonian Articles ISE • dissertations, textbooks and library publications in Digital Library Collection

Basic information about Cataloguing Department • Integrated library system Millennium • International Cataloguing Rules AACR II • Marc format • Cataloguing on the 4th level • Bibliographic description: author, title, publisher, publication date, pagination, ISBN etc. • Estonian UDC • Estonian Subject Thesaurus • Security features

  9. Computer era • 1996 was founded Estonian Libraries Network Consortium • 7 libraries, including TUT Library were members • 1997 was made a contract with American software manufactor Innovative Interfaces Incorporated • 1997 were bought 2 central servers – one for Tallinn, one for Tartu

  10. Computer era • Integrated library system was called INNOPAC • The first bibliographic record was entered on February, 2nd, 1999 • In 1999 was final card added to our card catalogue • In 2000 was created e-catalogue ESTER • Membership of Consortium has grown to 13 libraries

  11. Computer era • 1999 was published first Estonian UDC • 1999 was published first Estonian Subject Thesaurus • 2003 INNOPAC was replaced by web-based Millennium • 2010-2011 were developed new Marc manuals for cataloguing

  12. Future of Cataloguing Department • There are a lot of questions: • Will Consortium buy a new library system Sierra? What will happen if Consortium can't buy 2 servers? Can Tallinn's and Tartu's databases be united? • Will the new database of authorities NABA be developed? • Will TUT want to retain its students' master thesises?
