China • Third largest country in the world: area of 3,747,879 square miles (9,706,961 square kilometers) • Population: 1,353,821,000 • Because of its large size, climate differs from region to region. Most is in the temperate belt, but the south is in the subtropical belt and the north is in the subarctic belt. • The capital is Beijing, but Shanghai is the largest city. • Mandarin Chinese is spoken by 70% of the country. Standard Mandarin is the official language.

Hong Kong • Area: 1 104 square kilometers • Population: 6 540 • Climate is sub-tropical with temperatures dropping below 10 degrees Celsius in the winter and above 31 degrees Celsius in the summers. • Chinese and English are the official languages of Hong Kong. • Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China.

  4. Japan • Area: 378,000 square kilometers. • Population:127,817,277 • Climate is mild, humid with four seasons. • Capital is Tokyo. • Emperor is Akihito who is the 125th emperor of Japan.

Summers are short and hot, with the most rainfall of the entire year. • Capital is Ulaanbaatar. • Official language is Mongolian.
