SURPRISE CHECK ON VEHICLES IN FOUR MARATHWADA DISTRICTS INCREASE OF TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS- Due to the lockdown because of the second covid-19 wave in India, people were restricted from coming outside their homes, unless in an emergency. As the unlocking is progressing the government is providing more relaxations to the people. The number of people that can be seen outside is also increasing. With the crowd in the public places turning to normalcy, it is also recorded that the number of traffic violations are also increasing in the country. The traffic police are taking different approached to deal with the increasing traffic violations in the country. SPECIAL DRIVE AGAINST TRAFFIC VIOLATORS IN MARATHWADA DISTRICTS- In the Marathwada districts, the traffic police departments have done surprise checks to check whether the people follow the traffic norms or not. On 13th July 2021, a special drive was conducted by the traffic police departments. This was a 12 hours drive, where the police checked each and every vehicle to ensure that the traffic rules are followed. The drive was conducted in the four districts of Marathwada – Nanded, Prabhani, HIngoli, and Latur. Promodkumar Shewale, Nanded Superintendent, said that this special drive is necessary because lately the main focus of the police departments have been on maintain the covid-19 norms. And taking advantage of this, the traffic violations have increased in the country. The superintendents of the police departments that conducted the drive said that more than 22,000 vehicles were checked in the 12 hours drive conducted on Tuesday. Fine of over Rs. 31 lakhs were charged and challans were issued against the traffic violators that were caught on camera. Nisar Tamboli, Nanded Range’s special IG in an interview said “During the special drive in four districts of our range, a total of 9,091 motorists were found violating traffic rules and have been fined accordingly”. The purpose of the drive was to maintain traffic rules in the districts of Marathwada, but amidst the drive four cases of vehicle theft also came forward. o o o o o o

  2. The motorists were checked for not carrying a driving license, seat belts, helmets, drinking and driving, among other things. o
