  1. National Conference 24th & 25th March 2013 DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE GOVERNMENT OF BIHAR

  2. Adoption of improved technology for efficient use of water, nutrients and plant protection chemicals

  3. Improved Technology adopted in Bihar SRI technology in Rice SWI technology in Wheat Zero tillage in Wheat Intercropping of Maize with Potato Protected cultivation Sustainable Agriculture Soil & Water Conservation IPM INM

  4. SRI technology in Rice • Efficient use of water, nutrients and PP Chemicals • Adoption of this technology among farmers are increasing every year

  5. SWI technology in Wheat • Efficient use of water, nutrients and PP Chemicals • Among farmers adoption is not increasing remarkably due to inefficient Dibblers

  6. Zero tillage in Wheat Save one initial irrigation Less requirement of water in further irrigation Save at least 15 days in sowing time Automatic line sowing makes easy inter culturing operation Less disease impact Use of herbicide results less impact of pest

  7. Intercropping of Maize with potato Save:- No of cultural operation Water Time Fertilizer Plant protection chemicals Increase:- Cropping intensity Profit of farmers

  8. Sustainable Agriculture Green manuring with summer moong & Dhaincha Vermi compost unit 3. Promotion of Bio fertilizers & Bio pesticides

  9. Protected cultivation Vegetable and Flower production in Poly house, Poly tunnels, Green house & Net house Drip irrigation Sprinkler irrigation Irrigation with pvc & plastic pipes

  10. Soil & Water Conservation • After separation of Jharkhand, Bihar has only 8 hilly districts • remained in which Soil & Water conservation works are in progress • 335 Earthen check dam, 236 Pucka check dam, 259 run off • management structure & 102 well are constructed this year • Besides, Tree plantation in 99 hectare under dry land horticulture • in 131 hectare under agro-forestry programme are done Soil & water conservation Earthen check Dam Pucca check Dam Run off Management structure Pond / Well structure Vegetation in hilly areas with Aawla, Ber, Bel & Jackfruit

  11. IPM Farmers adopting IPM practices through training in FFS Practice in field:- Cultural Mechanical Biological Chemical Agro Eco System Analysis Promotion of:- Seed treatment materials Bio pesticides Pheromone traps Sticky traps Extension through literature of packages of practices Regular training to farmers through Master trainers

  12. FFS in Bihar • INM & IPM promotion in 3000 ha. Lichi orchardVaishali, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Motihari & Betia • Boron & Nimicide • 5 Pheromone traps/ha. 10 Plastic carat /ha • Promotion of High density orchard of Mango, Litchi & Guava

  13. INM Advisory to farmers:- Balanced use of fertilizers Use NPK complex, Mixture, SSP in stead of DAP Do not use fertilizers above recommended dose Use of Sulpher Use of PSB and KSB can reduce 20% P & K requirement Use of Compost/ Vermi compost can reduce N,P & K requirement and improve soil structure Use Lime in acidic soil to increase uptake of P Use of PhosphoZypsum in alkaline soil can increase uptake of P in plants Training to farmers under INM scheme

  14. Thank You

  15. Issues Fertilizer • MRP Rationalization of N, P & K fertilizers • Fright rate concern? • Fertilizer lift from Rake point by W/s & R/s? Seed subsidy • Increase subsidy on cereal and pulses seeds as its base price high • Power driven dibbler for wheat New varieties • Heat tolerant cultivars in Wheat • Short duration with high yield potential in Wheat Seed availability • More varieties suitable for Nutri farms
