A form of school based professional learning and reflective practice which integrates the most effective learning about best practice Coaching is teachers talking and acting in a purposeful way with the goal of continuously improving their teaching practice A Coach is a key listener & observer who asks questions, makes observations & offers suggestions that help teachers to reflect and grow on their teaching and learning practices What Is Coaching ?

  3. The Coaching Initiative • Provides one-to-one coaching for teachers in classrooms • Focuses on building the capacity of teachers rather than intervention with students • Aims to increase student learning outcomes • Builds sustainable practice in schools • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement in our school

  4. Why Coaching? Research suggests coaching has the most profound and sustained impact on teaching practice.

  5. Consider… • Tell me and I’ll forget • Show me and I may remember • Involve me and I’ll understand

  6. Coaching Is … • A confidential process • Non Judgemental • Reaffirming strengths in teaching • Promoting the exchange of good ideas, resources and sharing best practice • Providing opportunity for professional discussion • Breaking down isolation

  7. Based On The Understanding … • All students can achieve, given significant time and support • Teaching and learning in all classrooms can be improved because as Educators we are on a lifelong journey of learning • We continuously aim to increase student learning – this is our core business as Educators. Improvement occurs by improving the knowledge-base, expertise and capability that the teacher and the student bring to teaching and learning • Improving knowledge and capability requires professional learning within a classroom and school context rather than external workshops
