Politics • terrorist attacks on September the 11th 2001 • 2002: the European Union takes the euro € as common currency for 12 EU countries • EU- eastern enlargement – on May the 1st 2004 the EU takes 10 new countries, especially former eastern countries, and grows up to 25 states. • 2005: Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel • 2008: Barack Obama is elected president of the United States, as first afro-american in history. Election is on November the 4th. • Michael Jackson dies on June, the 25th 2009. • 2011: On the 22nd of July the Norwegian A. B. kills 69 youths at the island Utoya.

Electronic • 2001: mobile phones reach the masses • Social networks like “MySpace” or “facebook” get more and more popular. • The online encyclopedia “Wikipedia“ displaces more and more the other pendants. • DVD-player replace at the beginning of the century the VHS-Video recorder. • MP3-Player come up.

  12. Style • Sneakers stay after their braking-through in the 1980‘s very popular shoes. • Skinny jeans have a revival. • Plastic shoes “Crocs“ spread all over the world.

  13. Culture • Fantasy-Boom 2: movies like Harry Potter, the lord of the rings, the chronicles of Narnia and Twilight. • Fantasy-Boom in Europe. Many books are published and movies are directed. Most popular: Harry Potter and Lord of the rings.

  14. Climate • Climate warming is an intensive discussed topic in the world. • 2003: Heat wave in 2003: hottest summer in a hundred years in Europe -> climax in August
