Grow our own accessibility champions Online Course Accessibility Champions Program • Annual program, ten faculty members • Maximize the number of online courses in conformance with the CSU Online Course Accessibility Guidelines. • Facilitate redesign of online courses to ensure conformance.   5. Perks for Faculty Provides: • Catered sessions • Financial incentives • Instructional design assistance • Technology support • Certificate of completion • Magnetic badge

  6. Program requirements • Commit to two training sessions • Commit to two work sessions • Record an instructional video and secure captioning from COOL • Revise six course files including one HTML page

  7. Review process • Submit course files and video for an accessibility review • Attend accessibility review feedback meeting • Revise course based on feedback provided

  8. Faculty advocacy responsibilities • Attend planning meeting for co-facilitation of an introductory accessibility training for their colleagues • Speak at a department meeting about their work in the accessibility champions program • Recruit at least five faculty members from their department or college to attend Supportive Inclusive Practices training

  9. Faculty training responsibilities • Co-facilitate the Supportive Inclusive Practices Workshop with Accessibility Specialist • Assist participants with evaluating course syllabus

  11. Campus-wide Champions • Third year of program • 31 Champions in 11 departments • Over 150 faculty members attended an accessibility training co-facilitated by a faculty champion • Serve as departmental accessibility go-to

Training Evaluation One hundred percent of champions agreed or strongly agreed that they were able to: • Describe diverse student needs for accessible course content • Identify the legal requirements for designing accessible courses • Use a variety of accessibility evaluation tools to check the accessibility of online course content

Training Evaluation (2) One hundred percent of champions agreed or strongly agreed that they had acquired the skills to: • Design accessible Microsoft Office documents and presentations • Design accessible HTML pages for use in learning management system • Convert accessible documents to PDF • Create an accessible syllabus

Course Design Work Session Evaluation One hundred percent of champions agreed or strongly agreed that the work sessions provided an opportunity to: • Receive answers to questions about course accessibility • Receive assistance revising their course content • Revise the accessibility of their online course content

Course Accessibility Review Meeting Evaluation One hundred percent of champions agreed or strongly agreed that the course accessibility review meeting provided: • Specific feedback about course content that met CSU accessibility guidelines • Specific feedback about course content that did not met CSU accessibility guidelines • Recommendations and assistance revising course content to meet CSU accessibility guidelines
