  1. Blogs and Wikis Hunnisett = Blogging in High School Gregg = WIKI in Grade 4 January 2013

  2. How is Edublogs different than Edmodo? • I use EDMODO as a tool to update daily class lessons, as a reminder of due dates, and to upload handouts. This is a very important tool in the “housekeeping” and communication for the running of my classes. • I use EDUBLOGS as a place where WRITING is fostered, showcased and developed. This site is 100% dedicated to fostering the writing and reading of the students in an interactive discussion based forum. The blog is the VOICE OF THE STUDENTS!

  3. GOALS of BLOGGING in ELA • ENGAGEMENT: • students are WRITERS where audience and purpose matters; • students feature their voice, identity, and values • Students love reading each other’s work and they love feedback • To provide parent and staff access to participate and celebrate in the students’ learning and ideas • To provide students with access to exemplars of student writing – “the best resource to improve student writing” (Graham Foster); • ETHICAL • To build a safe “virtual” classroom space where language is academic in purpose • To teach safe Digital Citizenship • To build Character through scholarly and respectful language; • ENTREPRENEURIAL • To provide students with a real-life forum to “join the conversation” from a formative learning and critical thinking perspective

  5. Wiki’s and a way to manage peer assessment and writing

ISHII • Example Student/Teacher Wikis: • http://ms1001tales.wikispaces.com/home • http://digiteen2008.wikispaces.com/home • http://wedderburn-grade34.wikispaces.com/Maths+Multiplication • http://6words.wikispaces.com/home • http://flatclassroomproject.wikispaces.com/home • http://chem.wetpaint.com/?t=anon • http://waterways.wikispaces.com/home

  7. What I have done and experienced This may help clear it up. • Wikis in Plain English This is mine: Have a look http://4gr8.pbworks.com • Negative is cyberbullying • Positives is a paperless way to do homework • It is self-monitoring as others see your work.

  8. Notes for FFCA wikis and blogs A few things: • If teachers need help setting up their blog etc + security settings please make an appointment with Salima. • Teachers can choose to forfeit Edmodo and do a classroom blog or wiki but the link must be posted on Edmodo. Talk to Salima or your ICT rep for more info • Regarding subject based blogs/wikis like the ones shown, the link should be on Edmodo as well • Blogs and wikis still require that the FFCA name is not present and that student names are first name last initial • Pictures/video can be posted on the blog as long as the blog is locked and no FFCA logo shows.
