Rationale l.jpg
Rationale

  • The current individual crash database is limited since it does not contain the true outcome data, such as medical and financial items.

  • The linked database will be used to support local, regional and statewide highway safety decision-making to affect decreases in deaths, non-fatal injuries, and health care costs resulting from motor vehicle crashes.

Brief background on data linkage program l.jpg
Brief Background on Data Linkage Program

  • Injuries resulting from motor vehicle crashes is a major public health problem.

  • Injuries can be prevented, or reduced, if we understand their type, severity and cost.

  • Crash data alone do not indicate the injury problem in terms of the medical and financial consequences.

  • By linking crash data to their specific medical and financial outcomes, we can identify prevention factors.
