  2. El Tiempo Futuro Forms and Uses of the Future Tense in Spanish

  3. In Spanish, there are several ways to express future events – without actually using the future tense! • Present indicative – when we are certain the action will occur. Llegan a la costa mañana. They arrive at the coast tomorrow.

  4. Ir + a + infinitive – Commonly used in everyday speech; expresses the near future. Van a llegar a la costa mañana. They are going to arrive at the coast tomorrow.

  5. Future tense – when we want to express an action that WILL occur; often implies more certainty thanir+a+infinitive. Llegarána la costa mañana. They will arrive at the coast tomorrow.

  6. The future tense itself has a few meanings… • expressing actions and conditions that WILL happen • indicating something MIGHT happen or might be the case.

  7. Probability and the Future Tense The Spanish future tense sometimes indicates probability. In such cases, English would use probably, wonder, bet, mustbe, may, and might.

  8. --¿Dónde está Daniel? Where is Daniel? --Estará cuidándose en cama. He (might be, is probably) in bed taking care of himself. ¿Quién llamará a estas horas? I wonder who iscalling at this time? OR, Who can be calling at this time?

Forms of the future tense Almost all verbs are formed by adding -é, -ás, -á, -emos, and -án to the infinitive: hablar hablar hablar hablar hablar hablar deber deber deber deber deber deber abrir abrir abrir abrir abrir abrir yo tú él/ella/Ud.   12. Verbs with Irregular Future Stems: Some Spanish verbs drop the -e of the infinitive ending: InfinitiveStemFuture caber cabr- cabré, cabrás, cabrá.. haber habr- habrá (habré,habrás.. poder podr- podré, podrás, podrá querer querr- querré, querrás, saber sabr- sabré, sabrás, sabrá cab e r

  13. Verbs with Irregular Future Stems: Others replace the -e or -i of the infinitive ending with -d.   16. ¿Cuándo le dirás a ella que la amas? When will you tell her you love her? Tendré que cambiar mi estilo de vida. I’ll have to change my lifestyle. Habrá mucha gente en el concierto esta noche. There will be a lot of people at the concert tonight.

  17. Bueno, nos divertiremos mucho hablar en el futuro. Se lo daré un punto extra para la persona que puede de repetir y traducir lo siguiente: “Si tu gusto gustara del gusto que mi gusto gusta, mi gusto también gustará del gusto que tu gusto gusta. Pero como tu gusto no gusta del gusto que mi gusto gusta, mi gusto tampoco gusta del gusto que tu gusto gusta.”
