  2. What is calcipotriol? Calcipotriol is a type of ointment which was manufactured on 1st July 2016, mainly for the treatment of a disease called plaque psoriasis, a disease in which red spots start on the skin and it gradually increase. Experts say that in this skin disease called Psoriasis, many cells of the outer layer of your skin start growing more rapidly due to which dead cells start forming on the skin of your body and it gradually turns into scaly patches. However, sometimes it is also used in conjunction with a steroid medicine called betamethasone because it can be used for a long time, apart from using it, it shows the effect for about a month after using it. If you are going to use Calcipotriol, keep in mind that you may feel a slight itching after applying it because its main purpose is to clean up as much plaque as possible. It also slows down the cells on the skin disease called psoriasis to reduce the scaly area like inflammation. Also, it is considered to be the biggest source of Vitamin D which plays an important role in any skin repair. 2

  3. Thing to know before using calcipotriol While we told you above that it acts in a way similar to Vitamin D which is also considered to be antiproliferative, apart from this it helps you in performing various functions like stimulating your cell differentiation and normalizing epidermal growth. Here we are going to tell you that some important things should be known before using it.  Although we mentioned that it treats a disease called psoriasis, but before applying it, one has to make sure that if your disease is more serious then only a dermatologist can cure you.  Do not use if a pregnant woman or she is breastfeeding as it may harm the baby.  If you have sensitive skin and are allergic to any medicine, do not use it without consulting a doctor.  During your doctor's advice, you have been told that you have high calcium levels in your blood, so please take care because your body may have problems processing calcium in such a situation.  If you are using herbal or other medicines to beautify your skin, please consult your nearest doctor so that they can determine the dosage according to your body's response. 3

  4. How to use calcipotriol? Today, calcipotriol manufacturers in the market provide it as a gel/ointment and not in the form of tablets or injections and it is recommended by the doctor to use it once a day. 10-12 hours after calcipotriol, you are administered steroids, which may be administered by a doctor, who may choose a medium-strength or mild steroid before taking them. If there is no change within a few weeks or two weeks, then the doctor may advise you to take it twice daily, which you may also have to take steroids twice and there is no risk in this, according to the doctor, there should be a safe arrangement for you. Recovery time after use You should have regular checkups with your doctor while using calcipotriol. If they see any problem during the test, they can know if there impedes your recovery, then they can increase the dosage and by doing so you will start getting the benefits within about a week or two which you will be able to feel. Wash your hands thoroughly after using calcipotriol every day, as it can irritate if you accidentally touch your face. Experts say that if you go out in the sun after applying calcipotriol, your recovery time can increase significantly as it is sensitive to sunlight, so please stay away from sunlight. 4

  5. Common side effects of calcipotriol Calcipotriol is generally tolerable only if the doctor recommends its use, but there are some people who experience many side effects from it and it is believed that the side effects are seen in many lesser doses compared to the ointment than the gel.  If you are using it for psoriasis, then be careful here you need to pay more attention because it can cause a lot of irritation if applied to the face.  Make sure that while applying it is only on the part of psoriasis, or if applied outside, it can cause irritation in that area as well.  If applied to the patient's healthy skin, many side effects such as red marks, excessive itching, and drying of the skin can be seen.  One thing that should be ensured is that the amount of ointment should not be more than 1% because increasing the amount can affect calcium metabolism and if this happens by mistake, then you should get the calcium in blood and urine checked by the nearest doctor.  In case of any side effects, either visit the nearest doctor or check the information leaflet issued by the calcipotriol manufacturer. 5
