  2. Verbal Irony • involves sarcasm where a character says one thing but usually means another. • Sarcasm is slightly different: Irony is conveying something by saying the exact opposite. Sarcasm is meant to hurt someone. Irony is not.There are sometimes situations where you apply irony but the humor that is achieved is sarcastic. Sarcasm is always mockery. SNL

  4. Situational • involves something happening that is usually unexpected • BUT still makes sense in a twisted way. • Rain on your wedding day. • Planning an indoor wedding to stay dry and the pipes burst!

  7. Dramatic Irony • involves a situation in a narrative in which the reader knows something about present or future circumstances that the character does not know.
