  1. Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus Belarusian State Technological University Faculty of Information Technology Department of Engineering Graphics Minsk, 2016

  2. Department of Engineering Graphics was founded in 1944. According to the University Order # 133 (28.01.2002) the Department was rated as basic and became a part of the Faculty of Information Technology (The Order #168, 03.05.2014). Students of 26 specialties (all forms of education) are taught by the Department. The courses are: • Descriptive Geometry, Engineering and Computer Graphics; • Descriptive Geometry andEngineering Graphics; • Engineering and Computer Graphics; • Engineering Graphics (Order # 432, 03.08. 2007), • Engineering Geometry and Graphics (Order # 129, 08.04.2014).

  3. Education Process Organization 20 study guides (102.6 printed pages) were published by the Department in 2010-2015. Those include 5 study guides approved by the Ministry of Education (43.8 printed pages), 2 study guides, 7 lectures (including 6 in electronic format), 4 manuals.

  4. Education Process Organization Academic staff of the Department applies innovative technologies and modern education techniques: use of interactive whiteboard (IWB) and computer programs, development and use of electronic information databases, computer-based student assessment (for several courses), application of ranking academic performance evaluation system, modular education. The Department professors took part in various academic conferences. 12 reports have been made, 8 articles and 5 thesis reports have been published since 2010.

  5. Education Process Organization Use of interactive whiteboard (IWB) and computer programs An interactive whiteboard allows computer images to be displayed onto a board using a digital projector. The elements on the board can be manipulated by touching the screen with a marker – e.g. open a program or a web page. A lecturer can draw and write on the board. All information drawn and written on the board can be saved on the computer, then printed and e-mailed.

  6. Education Process Organization Computer-based assessment (for several courses) Question: Which drawing is an image of plane? 1 2 3 4 The right answer: 4.

  7. Education Process Organization Modular education Education modules include: – electronic workbook of lectures; – testing; – dictionary of terms; –tests and exams training materials and questionnaires; –individual tasks; –information data sources, GOST shortcuts, and other materials. An example of module “projection drawing”

  8. Research ACTIVITIES Since 2010 the Department has conducted the following research works: Development of Methods and Technics for Educational Process Improvement with the Help of Computer Technologies and Continuous Practical Work (2010-2015) Development of Methods and Technics, Software for the Evaluation of Emergencies Damage in Water Bodies in the Republic of Belarus (2011-2013) Examination of Sludge Depositories and Ponds Enclosures Stability (in Drainage and Polder Systems) for Emergency Prevention and Damage Evaluation (2014-2015) The results of above research works were successfully put into practice in regional departments of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus for population and areas protection in natural and man-made emergency situations; besides the results are applied in educational process in higher education establishments.

  9. Research ACTIVITIES Since the beginning of 2016 there has been initiated information and communication technologies development for organizing distance learning of the courses of the Department of Engineering Graphics. The aim is to improve educational process, create unified educational environment, and support continuous practical work. Distance learning: information and communication technologies introduction into the teaching of descriptive geometry within the course ‘Descriptive Geometry, Engineering and Computer Graphics’ for students of technical and chemical engineering specialties (drawing tasks solving with the help of electronic multimedia devices, cards for teaching and programmed academic performance tests, visualization tools)

  10. Research ACTIVITIES Since the beginning of 2016 there has been conducted the work ‘Development of Case Scenarios and Forecast Models of Industrial Ponds (Cooling, Waste) Hydraulic Structures Deformation for Emergencies Prevention and Their Impact Evaluation” The program ‘Scientific Basis for Safety and Emergency Control and Forensic Investigations” is a part of the State Research Program ‘Informatics and Space’ The aim: to investigate the state of industrial ponds (cooling, waste), to develop methodology, information and software tools for monitoring those potentially dangerous objects and evaluating impact and damage of potential emergency.

  11. Research ACTIVITIES

  12. Research ACTIVITIES • The Department students research activities include: • participation in descriptive geometry and engineering graphics olympiads • participation in paid researches; • involvement in two students project groups. • In 2010-2015: 28 reports were made in the student conferences, 27 thesis reports were published, 6 patents were received, three research works were presented at the state competition (one was awarded with the third grade Diploma), 980 students participated in olympiads.
