  1. Why Faith? QUESTIONS FOR SEEKERS

  2. But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. (1 Timothy 6:11 ESV)

  3. Why is faith so important? • Because God does not desire empty actions And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ (Mark 12:30 ESV)

  4. “And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, (Deuteronomy 10:12 ESV) “And if you will indeed obey my commandments that I command you today, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul, (Deuteronomy 11:13 ESV)

  5. …you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the LORD your God is testing you, to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. (Deuteronomy 13:3 ESV) And the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring, so that you will love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live. (Deuteronomy 30:6 ESV)

  6. The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. (1 Timothy 1:5 ESV) But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. (2 Corinthians 11:3 ESV)

  7. Why is faith so important? • Because God does not desire empty actions • Because works by themselves are empty

  8. For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near. …But in these sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. (Hebrews 10:1-3 ESV)

  9. then he added, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He does away with the first in order to establish the second. And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. (Hebrews 10:9-10 ESV)

  10. For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin. (Romans 3:20 ESV) For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law. (Romans 3:28 ESV)

  11. “And to the angel of the church in Sardis write: ‘The words of him who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. “‘I know your works. You have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead. (Revelation 3:1 ESV)

  12. “‘I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false. I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name's sake, and you have not grown weary. But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent. (Revelation 2:2-5 ESV)

  13. Why is faith so important? • Because God does not desire empty actions • Because works by themselves are empty • Because faith is the motivator for obedience

  14. By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks. (Hebrews 11:4 ESV) So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. (Romans 10:17 ESV)

  15. By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear(FAITH) constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith. (Hebrews 11:7 ESV)

  16. By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. (Hebrews 11:8-9 ESV)

  17. Why is faith so important? • Because God does not desire empty actions • Because works by themselves are empty • Because faith is the motivator for obedience • Because true faith is based in God’s word

  18. There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. (Proverbs 14:12 ESV) blind faith So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. (James 2:17 ESV) dead faith

  19. and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. (1 Corinthians 2:4-5 ESV) deluded faith I know, O LORD, that the way of man is not in himself, that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps. (Jeremiah 10:23 ESV) deceived faith

  20. But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. (James 2:18 ESV) Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? (James 2:20 ESV)

  21. Why is faith so important? • Because God does not desire empty actions • Because works by themselves are empty • Because faith is the motivator for obedience • Because true faith is based in God’s word For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. (1 John 5:4 ESV)
