Background In 2010, the NHS Equality and Diversity Council, which is chaired by Sir David Nicholson, set out its vision for a personal, fair and diverse health and care service where everyone counts. The council has already achieved much in realising this vision, including: • Equality Delivery System • Personal, Fair and Diverse Champions campaign • NHS Values Summit • Guidance to support NHS legal obligatiosn

  3. Key milestones – developing the strategy

The national strategy We are now seeking to combine work to reduce health inequalities with the promotion of equality and human rights as part of a coherent and effective strategy for health and care. We will develop a strategy that reflects and embeds the principles of the NHS Constitution and NHS Change model This will be built based on five key work streams:

  5. RECRUITING DIVERSE TALENT DEVELOPING DIVERSE TALENT WHOLE SYSTEM LEADERSHIP WORKFORCE INSIGHT Work Stream 1 DIVERSE LEADERS & STAFF

  6. Work Stream 2LISTENING AND LEARNING HEARING THE PATIENT, PUBLIC AND STAFF VOICE UNDERSTANDING WHAT MATTERS RESPONDING TO CHALLENGES

  7. Work Stream 3GAINING KNOWLEDGE COLLECTING HIGH QUALITY INFORMATION GETTING THE MOST FROM INFORMATION SHARING KNOWLEDGE OPENLY

  8. Work Stream 4MAKING THE SYSTEM WORK BEING CLEAR ON THE REQUIREMENT SHARE, TALK AND INNOVATE CONTINUALLY IMPROVE

  9. Work Stream 5 IMPROVING LIVES IMPROVING EXPERIENCES KEEPING EVERYONE HAPPY KEEPING EVERYONE HEALTHY
