ALICE Computing Start 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 20% Data Challenge WLCG integration 10% Data Challenge Physics Performance Report (mixing & reconstruction) First production (distributed simulation) Functionality + Simulation Interoperability + Reconstruction Performance, Scalability, Standards + Analysis AliEn (Alice Environment) • There are millions lines of code in OS dealing with GRID issues • Why not using them to build the minimal GRID that does the job? • Fast development of a prototype, can restart from scratch etc etc • Hundreds of users and developers • Immediate adoption of emerging standards • AliEn by ALICE (5% of code developed, 95% imported)

  9. ALICE Computing Understanding of ALICE Computing AliRoot classes General Simulation Reconstruction Analysis - Base classes - Interface classes - Clusterization - ESD/AOD classes - Steering - Event generators - Tracking - HBT - IO control - Geometry & Materials - PID - Charm, jets, etc. AliEn: General Layout • Root / Geant3 / AliRoot • Core of ALICE computing model is AliRoot • Uses ROOT framework • Couple AliEn with ROOT for Grid-based analysis. • Use PROOF– Parallel ROOT Facility • To the user it’s like using ROOT

  37. ALICE Computing Contribution Plan for Korea ALICE Community Contribution Plan for Korea ALICE Community • UI Machine with AliEn • Domestic Researchers will have one account for each. • Researchers can submit their job from this machine. • AliEn will be installed and managed by KISTI. • No need to follow up AliEn version upgrade schedule. • Currently, small amount of disk is allocated. • In the near future, the allocated amount will be increased. • Use of KISTI Resources • We have checked the usability of using KISTI’s resources • Pablo Saiz (CERN), Bumsu Jang (Yonsei Univ.), Beob Kyun Kim (KISTI) • Researchers can submit their job to be run at KISTI’s resource which is one of the most stable farms. • Technical Information wiki • Within this year, a wiki will be launched for Korea ALICE Community. • It will includes technical issues on using AliEn, gLite MW, etc. 37
