  3. About Me • University of Delaware • B.A. in English Education • Arcadia University • Masters degree in Education • Reading Specialist and ESL certification • 5th year at HHHS • Taught in Wilmington, DE

  4. Course Description This course will emphasize public speaking skills, media literacy, writing, and independent reading. Reading: • Students will read short stories, plays, novels, and non-fiction articles • Independent reading (SSR book) • Metacognitive strategies for complex texts Writing: • Students will write informative, persuasive, and narrative pieces • Weekly journal writing (www.Edmodo.com) • We will focus on grammar and vocabulary Speaking: • Students will have many opportunities to build confidence as a speaker • Focus on speaking skills (eye contact, volume, etc.)

  5. Grading Information A student’s grade in class will be based on: • Oral Reflections and Presentations • Written Reflections and Compositions • Literary Analysis • Quizzes and Examinations • Independent Reading • Journals • Classwork • Homework • Participation

  6. Class Texts • Literature & Language Anthology • Short stories • Plays • Novels • Non-fiction articles • Self-selected reading book • Text complexity rubric
