Access to Oxford Supercomputing Centre and UK National Grid Service resources for registered users Data as well as Computational Resources Arts and humanities need for a common data grid for information sharing

  8. How the federation of repository services might be joined by implementing interoperability specifications and web services. • [1] & [2] harvestable interface and authenticated access to the SRB system • [3], [4] & [5] harvestable interface, federated search and ingest to the ASK repository system • [6], [7], [8] & [9] metadata ingest, indexing, federated search/OAI-PMH interfaces & authenticated access to the fedora system BID: Bridging the Interoperability Divide 1JISC funded project (April 07 – March 09)

  9. BID: Bridging the Interoperability Divide 2Some examples of use cases • Integration of OeRC SRB system into a wider repository framework • Publishing datasets to institutional repository • Access control • Academic Publications • Resource discovery through metadata records • Linking to data/objects from within papers/theses • Provide a consistent metadata interface

  10. Digital Repositories Co-ordinator 1 • A range and variety of digital repositories exist in Oxford, but there is a lack of overall coherence and coordination. It is essential that structures are in place which ensure: • focused research is undertaken to develop a coherent framework for Digital Repositories in Oxford • requirements for research data within such a framework are scoped • communication takes place between the activities • national and international standards are adhered to • skills and knowledge are shared

  11. Digital Repositories Co-ordinator 2Key responsibilities • include: • scope the research data requirements to ensure that the federated digital repositories framework will meet the prioritised needs of researchers across disciplines • develop an interoperability plan which ensures the framework interfaces with the OULS Fedora system • establish communications and collaboration with existing digital repositories and digital resources in place across the collegiate University • audit the existing digital resources in the collegiate University • document and disseminate recognised best practice information on repository standards, metadata standards, and discovery
