  1. Proton Plan Status September Report Eric Prebys

  2. Agenda • Operations Report/Technical Progress – Prebys • Answers to Review Comments – Prebys/Sims • Cost/Schedule Report – Sims

  3. Operations Report

  4. Operational Issues • NuMI • Has been running well • Demonstrated slip stacked beam to target • MiniBooNE • MiniBooNE has benefited from NuMI’s misfortunes • Other than that, same old, same old.

  5. FY06 Total Booster Output Falling a bit behind

  6. NuMI FY06

  7. MiniBooNE FY06 Need to do better

  8. Technical Progress

  9. Progress • Technical Progress Linac • 1.01.01 PA Vulnerability – • Three new tubes delivered since last PMG (record?) • Four total (plus seven ordinary spares) • More or less on schedule • 1.01.02 Quad Power Supplies • Design of replacement cards proceeding. • 1.01.04 LLRF Upgrade • RF Groups has assigned manpower to the project • Beginning modeling and preparing for tests with test station • Plan extensive system testing planned during shutdown. Booster • 1.02.01 Determine rep. rate limit • Still trying to nail down all the numbers for 15 Hz • 1.02.02 Orbump (+ 400 MeV line) – • All six magnets complete • Two magnets tested • Miscellaneous fabrication on schedule for shutdown

  10. Progress Booster • 1.02.03 Correctors – • Moving Ahead with Prototype • Finalizing electrical spec (some questions about acceptable slew rate) • Working on prototype measurement and QA procedure • Preparatory water work put on list for shutdown • 1.02.04/05 30 Hz/Gamma-t – • Progress kind of stalled. • Some manpower diverted by stacking RRT • Hope to move things along and still make some decision in January • 1.02.11 Booster Dump Relocation • Settled on 6.8E18 protons per year as dump limit (twice what we typically send to present dump) • Everything else on track for shutdown. • 1.02.13 Booster RF/ Rep. rate Improvements • Orders out for transformers and switch gear • On “A” list for shutdown • Still need to coordinate with operations (1 week power outage for each gallery)

  11. Progress Main Injector • 1.03.01 Large Aperture Quads – • Still planning to install all 7 during shutdown • 1.03.02 Collimation – • Design complete. • All reqs out (except perhaps marble) • Fabrication proceeding (see picture) • 1.03.03 NuMI MultiBatch Operations – • 2+5 operation more or less at design levels • High intensity (2 batch) slip stacking demonstrated to NuMI, as per review recommendation. • Low intensity multibatch slip stacking at 8 GeV (3+3 stacking) • Initial tests of MI-10 kicker mods had some problems • Effort increasing • Mech. Supp. Confident we can get at least the tunnel work done in the shutdown. • Modeling work continues

  12. Progress (cont’d) • 1.5 Stage II • After a long hiatus, activity has started again • Reduced scope to just Recycler retasking • Hope to have report by Christmas

  13. ORBUMP Magnet (w/o side and end plates) Girder

  14. Correctors First thermal model Design

  15. MI-8 Collimator Progress
