  3. Introduction OVERVIEW of EPI INFO 7 MOBILE

  4. Epi Info 7 Mobile • Epi Info 7 Mobile is designed for use on mobile touchscreen devices running the Android operating system. • The mobile application is compatible with Android tablets and phones running Android version 4.0 • There are three modules offered: • StatCalc – a statistical calculator for epidemiologists • Data Collection – collect data using forms created with Epi Info 7 • Data Analysis –analytical features for analyzing data collected on the device or downloaded from another source

  5. Epi Info 7 Mobile • These modules do not contain the full Epi Info™ functionality. • Data can be transferred from the mobile device to a PC for more complex analyses.

  6. Initial Setup • The Epi Info™ Companion for Android is available for download at the Google Play store. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gov.cdc.epiinfo&hl=en

  7. Initial Setup • Since Android specifications are open source, device manufacturers are free to change positioning and appearance of common elements such as menus and buttons. • When an Android device is connected to a PC via a USB cable, it may register as a disk drive, media device, or a digital camera. • Please note that data and forms can only be transferred in disk drive or media device modes.

  10. Form Design DESIGNING SURVEYS foR MOBILE DEVICES

Designing Forms • Create the data collection form using the Epi Info 7 Form Designer. • Design creates certain features and behavioral differences between the mobile and PC format. • Not all field types or check code commands are supported or provide value on a mobile device. • Required fields and drop-down lists may behave differently on a mobile device than they do on the Epi Info™ 7 Enter Data module. • Forms on a mobile device require a minimum of three data fields.

  12. Copy Form to Mobile Device • From the Form Designer menu, select Copy Form to Android Device.

  15. Collecting Data in Mobile Device • Access the mobile companion titled Epi Info™ from your device’s application list. • Press Collect Data • Click on the triangle on the right hand corner to see a list of available forms.

  16. Collecting Data in Mobile Device • Select the form for data collection from the drop-down list by pressing on the form name. • Press Load • The Collect Data page appears with a list of all records contained on the mobile device for that form.

  20. Fields Display on Device • Images • Will appear as a photo field on a mobile • Allows the user to insert pictures taken with the mobile device onto the form • Photos taken will always stretch to the field shape that appears on the mobile device

  21. Fields Display on Device • GPS Coordinates • Latitude and longitude can be recorded • Press Capture Coordinates button

  22. Fields Display on Device • GPS Coordinates • Select Latitude field drop-down list. • Select Longitude field drop-down list. • Click Set button

  23. Working with Records • Save Record • Select Save Record in the top right corner of the screen. • An incomplete form can be saved and finished at a later time. • Data is stored with a Record ID and Preview information.

  24. Working with Records • Edit Record • Press on the record you wish to edit from the Record List. • Data for record selected appears on the form and is ready for editing. • Delete Record • Hold down on the desired Record from the Record List • Select Delete Record

  26. Working with Records • Search for Record • Type a specific value to search for (i.e. Last Name, Patient Id, Age)

Form Configurations • Configurationbuttonlocated in top righthandside of screen: • Syncwith Cloud – Ifconfiguredwithinthedevice, data can be sentdirectly to thecloud. • CreateSync File - creates a “syncronization file” whichincorporatesall data collected in device so thatit can be importedinto EI7 database. • DeleteAll Data – deletesall records collected in devicefortloadedform. Itis irreversible. • Analize Data – providesbasicoptionsforanalysis; frequencies, means and 2x2 tables.

  29. Data Entry TRANSFERING DATA FROM MOBILE DEVICE

  30. Create Sync File • Select Create Sync File option from form configuration settings. • Create a password for the sync file. • Password will be required to access the sync file and download the information to a computer. • Click Set

  31. Create Sync File • File created will have an .epi7 file extension • File will be stored in Downloads > EpiInfo> SyncFiles folder on the mobile device

  32. Transfer Data from Mobile Device • Connect the mobile device to your computer via a USB cable. • Open the project and form used to collect the data on the mobile device. • Select Import Data > From mobile device option.

  34. Transfer Data from Mobile Device • Two issues might occur: • Computer unable to recognize your device • Sync file created is not being displayed • Solution: • Restart the device • Unplug/plug the cable
