  4. An Example: Distracted Driving Legislation • Change does not just happen. There must be reasons or conditions for these changes. • What are some reasons for the recent changes in distracted driving laws? • When change happens with laws and policies, individuals or groups have specific objectives in mind that they wanted to achieve. • What objectives did law makers have in mind regarding making changes to distracted driving laws? • The results of the actions need to be tracked and measured. • What were/are some of the results of the changes to distracted driving laws?

Intended and Unintended Results • Even the best planned and thought-out actions can have unintended results • Actions can have a range of effects on various groups of people • Active citizenship and good governance mean tracking and measuring the actual consequences of our actions to understand the actual consequences of our actions to understand who is being affected, how and why.
