  1. Higher HistoryWriting the Introduction: Rise of Nazis To what extent was the Weimar Government’s acceptance of the Versailles Treaty the primary reason for the rise of the Nazis up to 1933? 20 marks

  2. Introduction • CAF • Context – Argument - Factors

  3. Context • 2-3 sentences introducing the topic or ‘setting the scene’ • Try to centre it around the issue, for example in Rise of the Nazis focus on the Nazis as a small party to their emergence as the largest

  4. Example At the end of WWI the Nazi party were only a tiny political party in German politics. By 1932 the Nazi party were receiving 13.2million votes, making them the most popular German political party. Historians have long debated the factors which allowed the Nazis to gain support in Germany.

  5. Argument • Explain that the key issue (in this case Treaty of Versailles) was indeed important and explain why

  6. Example The Treaty of Versailles was important in allowing the Rise of the Nazi party because the German people could not forgive Weimar for signing the hated ‘Diktat’ which stripped Germany of her armed forces and her pride and Hitler manipulated this in his speeches.

  7. Factors • Explain the other important factors which you will include in your essay

  8. Example However, other political weaknesses, economic weaknesses of the Weimar government, the appeal of the Nazi party and a lack of united political opposition were also important in allowing the rise of the Nazi party. Therefore the Treaty of Versailles was just one of several key factors.
