  4. Political Considerations • Is the area in a war zone? • Terrorist threats? • Hostile toward outsiders? • Does the country require a form of bribery? (Legal and required in some areas) • Build a relationship with the national and/or local governments

  5. Legal Considerations • Can you be easily sued (like in the U.S.)? • What are the national and local laws regarding engineering, construction, funding, etc.? • What laws exist regarding entry and exit to and from the project locale?

Regulatory Requirements • What regulations exist regarding the construction, startup, and operation of potable and/or waste water plants? • How are they enforced? • What permits are required? • What testing is required? • What sampling points are required? • What sampling frequency is required?

Sampler is DNR certified. • Driller takes rock samples and sends to DNR Geology in Rolla. Sampler is DNR certified. • Treatment requirements determined by DNR results • Well drilled • Well cased • Well head grouted • Well disinfected • Well pump control

  15. Conclusion • Use Sound Judgment when regulations are lacking • Provide people with a safe drinking water supply • Ensure clean water effluent from waste treatment plants • Learn from other chapters’ experience • Obtain FUNDING, $$$ ???
