  2. What is it? My book is about a group of boys that start a gang. One boy is a bad influence on the other boys . Attribute: Setting makes this book Realistic Contemporary Fiction. Title: Autobiography Of My Dead Brother What is your book’s genre? Write it here: Realistic contemporary Fiction Attribute: Realistic Fiction because the reader could believe things in the story. The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier Katherine Paterson, Bridge to Terabithia Attribute: Realistic Fiction contains Characters who are believable A Taste for Blackberries by Doris Buchanan Smith

  3. Attribute: The setting makes this book realistic contemporary Fiction “I was easy with Sidney, too. He was a cop and everybody was supposed to be a little uptight with cops because we were all. Like, deep down gangsters and just chill prowling to keep people out of our bizness, but Sidney was righteous. When he ran down the numbers about how iron city had so many brothers hooked up that it looked like Homeyville, you had to pay some attention” 32. “Saturday morning. It was the end of June and there were two months left before I would really have to start thinking about school again. Moms had said it would be all right for me to go down to Cooper Union and see the art courses, but if I didn’t get in she wanted me to find a job somewhere” 44. “They looked so foul –bent-over guys nodding out on the corner, women leaning against a building like they were half asleep, and dudes on crutches who were gruggies and messed up with AIDS. Sometimes the corner of 149th street looked like an ad for some desperate Third World Country” 114.

  4. Attribute: Realistic Fiction because the reader could believe things in the story. “ ‘Lord Knows we are tired today as we gather here in fellowship and sorrow, in brotherhood and despair, for the going-home ceremony of fourteen-year-old Bobby Green.’ ” Pastor Loving rocked forward as he spoke. “ ‘ lord knows we are tired of burying our young men, of driving behind hearses and seeing the painted letters of remembrance on the walls of our neighborhoods. ‘ “1 “It was more complex, too. I had heard the whole rap about how we didn’t grow drugs around the way. We didn’t have no airplanes, so somebody had to bring them in and get them to the streets. All the needy veins ended at the fingertips-they didn’t stretch to South America, or Afghanistan, or anyplace else they were growing the stuff.” 78 “Sunday. The eyes was all right, just a little sore where the back of his nail had hit it, but I didn’t like being anybody`s punching bag, even if they thought they were right, which Dad did.” 156

  5. Attribute: Realistic Fiction contains Characters who are believable “C.J. is the same age as me, fifteen. He was raised in the church and had been playing piano and organ for as long as I knew him. He wanted to play jazz, but his moms said he should stick to classical and gospel.” 5 “Rise has this funny way of walking with one shoulder higher than the other one, and that made him look like he was bopping as he walked out of the park .” 6 ‘ “Drive-by!” ‘ White Clara screamed, and went over the side rail as the first bullets hit the steps. I panicked big-time and just closed my eyes and covered my head . Pow! Pow! Pow! Pow! Pow! That fast.” 86

  6. Evaluation : Is AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MY DEAD BROTHER a good example of realistic contemporary fiction? I think my book is a good example of realistic contemporary fiction because the book gives great examples of realistic characters and events. Carla and rise get shot at in a drive by sitting on the steps. This book talks about everyday events in life and things that happen and how they happen. A boy named C.J. got shot and killed by a drive by at a young age.
