  3. Product Introduction

  4. What’s a Host Controller ? • Host Controllerconnects a host system/embedded CPU to other network or storage devices • Host Controller attaches to a host system/embedded CPU via its own peripheral bus (PCI, PCI-X, or PCI-e) • SATA Host Controller connects a SATA storage device to the host system/embedded CPU peripheral bus • See Fig-1 & Fig-2 • IDE Host Controller connects a IDE storage device to the host system/embedded CPU peripheral bus: • See Fig-3

  5. XRS10L620 – PCI-X SATA/IDE Host Controller • IDE Interface • Conforms to ATA-7 specification • PIO mode 0,1,2,3,4 with 16.6 MB/s data rate • Multi-word DMA mode 0,1,2 with 16.6MB/s data rate • Ultra DMA mode 0,1,2,3,4,5,6 with up to 133MB/s data rate • PCI-X Interface • 32-bit PCI-X with burst data rate 400 MB/s @ 100 Mhz • Compliant with PCI Bus Power Management I/F 1.1 • Supports Dual Address Cycle (DAC) • Physical Features • 128 Pin LQFP package • 1.8/3.3V power supply General Features • 2 SATA ports and 1 IDE port • Supports enhanced AHCI to reduce CPU overhead • Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) allows advanced features of SATA such as hot plug and Native Command Queuing (NCQ) • Compliant to SATA Port Multiplier ver 1.1 SATA Interface • Conforms to Gen1i and Gen1m(eSATA) • Asynchronous Notification & Hot plug capable • Programmable output swings • Tolerant to Spread Spectrum Clocking • Internal termination for AC coupling

  6. Applications

  7. XRS10L620 Potential Applications • Plug-in SATA Host Bus Adapters(HBA)s • DVR Applications • Personal Video Recorder(PVR)/Set-Top-Box(STB) • Video Surveillance/Video Editing • PC/Server Motherboards • Storage Sub-systems • NAS, Data-duplication, Backup Company Confidential

  8. Plug-in Cards • Plug-in Cards using XRS10L620 are SATA Host Bus Adapters (HBA)s • PCMCIA/Cardbus for Notebooks • PCI Cards for PC desktops/servers Company Confidential

  9. DVR Applications • DVR applications fall in to 2 categories: • Requiring < 4 drives • Personal Video Recorder (PVR)/Set-top Box (STB) – max 2 drives • 1 internal HDD • Internal HDD + external eSATA connector • DVD Recorder – max 3 drives • DVD-R/W + 1 HDD • DVDR-R/W + 1 HDD + 1 external eSATA connector • Requiring > 4 drives • Video Surveillance: multiples of 4 drives: 8, 16, etc.. • Video Editing/Broadcast: multiples of 4 drives: 8, 16, etc. Company Confidential

  10. DVR Applications: < 4 Drives Any system with PCI interface and don’t have (enough) SATA/IDE drive ports • PVR • Set-top-Box • Home Media Server DVR with 2 to 4 drives (No PMP needed) Company Confidential

  11. DVR Applications: > 4 Drives Video Surveillance Box: 8 HDD + DVD-R/W + 1 eSATA Company Confidential

  12. PC/Server Motherboard Applications • The newer PC chipsets usually don’t have IDE ports any more • XRS10L620 adds IDE capability to motherboard and 2 additional SATA ports (PMP-aware and eSATA capable) Company Confidential

  13. EXAR Advantage

  14. Value Proposition • Versatile Analog front end • Drives over 2m of eSATA cable with low jitter at the receiver end • SW programmable Tx and Rx parameters for best application fit • Tolerant to SSC for achieving EMI compliance • Cost-effective solution • Minimized thermal management • Low overhead manufacturing cost • Support for low-cost IDE ODDs • End-user friendly • Extensively IOP tested across industry leading SATA targets including SATA Port Multipliers

  15. Competition * Power consumption with PCI @ 66 Mhz Exar Advantage Power Advantage Company Confidential

  16. Selling Against Competition • Selling against Silicon Image 3512/3112 • Higher performance PCI-X bus • 400 MB/s vs. 266 MB/s throughput • Lower manufacturing cost • Our LQPF package does not need a E-pad for thermal relief • Support for IDE port • Required by ODD based DVR applications • Required for duplication and data-backup boxes • Selling against Marvell 88SP5020 • Marvel announced this part in early 2003 • Not compliant to the latest SATA standards • Not AHCI compliant • Interoperability with newer Drives may be an issue • Higher throughput with PCI-X and NCQ

  17. Product Status and Collateral

  18. EXstor Product Status

  19.
