  2. About The Author • Shirley Jackson was born in San Francisco on December 14 1916. • She published her first story ,which name is Janice, in school magazine.

  3. Also in 1948 LOTTERY,which is the most well-known short story of the 20th Century, published in New Yorker. • On August 8,1965 Jackson died because of heart failure.

  4. In 1944 her story ‘Come Dance With Me In Ireland’ was chosen for ‘Best American Short Stories’. • In 1948 her first novel,The Road Through The Wall published.

  5. Characters • Tessie Hutchinson: She is a middle age housewife. She won the lottery and she dead by people in the village. • Bill Hutchinson: He is the husband of Tessie. He won the lottery for his family. • Joe Summers: He is a man who organised the lottery. He is very powerfull and wealthy.

  6. Setting The story take place in different places but most of the story take place the town square.

  7. Summary In the morning of June of 27 this day was the lottery day. Therefore everyone wear chic clothes and they began to come to square with collect big rocks.

  8. Mr Summers ask formal questions because this questions and this lottery are their tradition.In some town people gave up the lottery but in that town they don’t want to do it.

  9. After the questions mans began to take paper from the black box in orderly. • And then everyone opened the papers. If they take empty paper they become very happy but Mr Hutchinson didn’t be happy because he take paper which has a black point.

  10. Mrs Hutchinson said that this isn’t fair, you didn’t give enough time for him to take right paper but no one listens her.

  11. Mr Summers invited the Hucthinson Family to take new papers. Everyone in the family chose a paper and they opened. And the black paper is in Mrs Hucthinson. She didn’t want to die but people didn’t listen her. When she say that it isn’t fair they began to throw rocks to her and she died with a bad way.

  12. The Main Topic Of The Story • In that story, writer wants to make us to think about our traditions. I think, she says that ‘ We shouldn’t believe the traditions unconciously because just as they are coming from history.’

  13. Movie Version Movie version of this story released in 2007 and it was directed by Augustin Kennady.
