  1. INFINITIVE use (2 verb rule) When to use the infinitive Whenever there are 2 verbs in a row, the second verb remains in the infinitive form. These verbs often are followed by another verb • Querer(quierobailar-I want to dance) • Esperar (esperograduarme-I hope to graduate) • Necesitar (necesitanestudiar-they need to study) • Poder (puedesir-you can go) • Preferir (ellaprefieresalir-she prefers to go out) • Deber (debemoslevantarnos-we should get up) • Saber (sabenhablarespañol-theyknowhow to speak Spanish) • Pensar (piensocomprar-I plan to buy) • Gustar (me gustabailar-I like to dance) *verbs like gustar with indirect object pronouns: (molestar, fascinar,encantar, fastidiar, interesar, faltar, importar, aburrir) • Gustaría (les gustaríadormir-you all would like to sleep)

Special uses of infinitives Acabar de + infinitive –to just finish doing something. • ACABO DE COMER-I just ate Tenerque + infinitive-to have to do something • TENGO QUE VESTIRME-I have to get dressed. Ira + infinitive-to be going to do something (in the future) • VOY A IRME-I am going to leave.
