  1. Stave # 1 Metrology Eric VIGEOLAS, WG2 July the 12th 2011

  2. Foreword • A tooling have been quickly manufactured to measure the stave accuracy. • Then many tests have been made to control the measurements vs stave flexibility • Final control made this morning shows that the stave still moving during measurements  We can not trust the preliminary values we gave especially the face plate flatness UV glue dots on 5 points to maintain the stave in its natural position

  3. Some results (can be trusted) • Some measurements was meanwhile possible (especially on the stave fixation blocs) • The Fixation Hole inter axis have been measured @ 723.98 mm • A bare measurement of the pipe length have been done 1301 mm • A refence plan have been constructed probing the two End Bloc assembly plans the flatness of the global plan composed by these two reference plan is 0.07 mm • The Stave reference systhave been constructed as above without difficulties • On one side the Face plate have been measured 0.021mm below the reference plan and on the other side 0.063 above the reference plan Distance Face plate ref plan = +0.063 Distance Face plate ref plan = -0.021 Reference plan composed by probing the two extremity plans Reference axis made by joining the two reference holes The Stave origin is the middle of the two reference holes

  4. Preliminary conclusion • We were not able to complete all the measurements we wanted to do • We need to built a stave jig for the MMT control more complex that this one which will permit to avoid stave distortion during probing • UV Tag is a good idea but need to be more tested • In order to go on in stave testing we decided to send to send the stave to UniGe for loading trial and Jig compatibility tests, and to prepare a new tool for the next stave generation MMT Control

  5. Some resultsTo take with caution • Face plate measurements with glue dots • 3 lines measured along the stave • Stave move during the measurements so value have to be taken with care • S shape which is not involved by the stave motion

  6. Same measurements than previously but on a unique lineTake it with caution

  7. To take with cautions • This is a Shape control based on the CAD reference shape • During this measurement stave move so value can not be taken in consideration • But this quind of control will be applied on the staves to control the overall accuracy with the new tool
