Day One • Management Strategy: Have several Student Conductors • “1, 2, 3, eyes on me” “1, 2, eyes on you” • Microteaching Example • Fundamental of Music • Chapters 3 • Kodaly - Pedagogy • Guitar – transpose and 3-string strum • Group Music Integration Unit (GMIU) For Thursday: work on GMIU, read the First Week of Class (Chapter 4), practice Kodaly method

  3. Chapter 3 - Rhythm • Beat • Tempo • Meter • Reading Rhythms • Syncopation

  4. Chapter 3 - Melody • Pitch • Steps and Skips • Shape • Range • Phrases • Scale • Accidentals

  5. Chapter 3 - Texture • Monophonic – one musical line • Homophonic/Harmonic – melodies accompanied by chords • Polyphonic – two or more musical lines

  6. Fundamentals • Classroom Management – Lights/Bells • Teaching Models • Chapter 3 (rhythm, melody, texture) • Rhythmic Dictation – Write 4 measures using quarter (ta), quarter rest (rest) and two-eighth notes (ti-ti) symbols. • Melodic Dictation – Write 4 measures using Sol, Mi, and La. Start on Sol and end on Sol. Read the rest of Chapter 3 (tone color, dynamics, and musical forms) Read the directions for getting into D2l on the electronic syllabus and see that you have access. If you have difficulty or can’t get in, go to COE Room 401 for assistance.
