  1. Welcome to Mrs. Egan’s Kindergarten Open House!

  2. Mrs. Egan’s Classroom Rules/School Rules Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself. Follow directions the first time. Stay on task. The following star colors are used to let you know quickly how your child's day was: Green = A great day of listening, following directions and being a good friend! Keep up the good work! Gold/Yellow = Warning. Your child had some trouble with listening, following directions or being a good friend. Let's work harder on this tomorrow. Red = Continued acts of breaking rules. Child will use recess or playtime to participate in a reflection process in order to improve behavior. Please sign your child’s calendar daily

  3. Discipline • Communication forms are given as a way for teachers to communicate when students are misbehaving. Communication forms need to be signed and returned. • Three communication forms regarding the same problem will result in a disciplinary referral and consequence (lunch detention, etc.). • If a communication form is not returned for PE, your child will sit out the next day. • During PE, your child earns a plus or a minus for each day. If they lose their “plus,” it will be recorded in their calendars. If they lose three “pluses” in a marking period, they receive a communication form. If they receive three communication forms in a marking period, they will sit out of PE for a week.

  4. Discipline Continued • Your child has “outdoor play” and indoor “center” time each day. If your child is on yellow, they miss five minutes of play time. If they are on red, they miss the entire play time.

  5. Homework Your child will have two kinds of scheduled homework. Daily Reading Log (10-20 minutes a day) Homework folder This folder will have a phonics (ABC) sheet to practice handwriting and a weekly activity. It will go home on Monday and will be due on Friday. Please have them trace their letters with a finger and a pencil EACH NIGHT. Accompanying the phonics sheet will be a math or science sheet. Occasionally, a small project will be given. Parents, please help your child with their homework, but do not do it for them!

  11. What is the PTA? The Garrison-Jones Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Association provides support, information and resources to families focused on the health and education of children. Why You Should Join Joining the PTA is a great way for you to get involved in your children’s education and support those who are advocating on their behalf. You can be an active member by participating in programs and events, or you can simply show your support by joining. Who Can Join Anyone and everyone: parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins… all are welcome! Local businesses can show their support by joining, too. It's only $6 per person to join. Your membership fee allows us access to the resources of the national PTA and it helps fund important programs like Reflections, Pioneer Day, and Citizen of the Month.

  12. Communication • Please initial your child’s calendar each day. • Please empty your child’s folder each day with the exception of the reading log and calendar. • To check on upcoming events, please see the calendar tab of our class website. • www.schoolrack.com/teachforyou

Please label all backpacks, lunch boxes, envelopes with money, etc. Feel free to come eat lunch with your child. However, if you want to eat outside at the picnic tables with their friends, they need a note from their parents. If your child has health or vision problems, please let me know. If your child’s religion prevents them from having holiday celebrations, please let me know. Please be sure your child is here on time. Tardiness affects the whole class, MOSTLY your child. You can reach me at school- 727-469-5716 or through email: Eganj@pcsb.org. I will get back to you within 24 hours.
