  2. About Agewell Foundation • An NGO dedicated to the welfare of senior citizens across the country . Established in the year 1999 • Assist senior citizens to move surely but steadily from helplessness and self pity towards confidence, respect and mutual caring by bringing forth awareness and values in the young • Agewell volunteer teams include professionals, senior bureaucrats, university professors, artists, writers, judges & all those people who sincerely feel and work for the cause

  3. Vision Agewell Foundation is committed to generate compassion and understanding within all to transform social attitudes towards the senior citizens, by empowering every person in living life fully.

  4. Goals Agewell’s Goals are: • Bring awareness towards self, with a positive change in perceptions about Old Age • Evolve a sense of moral and social responsibility towards senior citizens • Advocate for the needs and rights of senior citizens • Infuse better interaction between the generations

The Facts - Worldwide • A demographic restructuring of the world populace is underway. • United Nations estimates put the number of those aged 60 plus at 600 million, i.e. 10 per cent of the world population. • The number is expected to go up by 2 billion by 2050. • The Economic Survey 2004, states that the elderly population (65 plus) is expected to “rise sharply by 2.6 per cent per annum from 45 million in 2000 to 76 million in 2020”.

The Facts - India • No. of Persons 60+ in India was 57 million in 1991 which is expected to reach 100 million mark during next decade. • 63% of the total elderly population is in age group of 60-69 years • 26% in age group of 70-79 years. • 11% in age group of 80 years and above. • National figures also indicate that incidence of widowhood is much higher among females who are 60+.

Focus Initiative Re-Employment & Job Opportunities • Central Government needs to increase sensitisation programs of young India towards ageing India • Corporate giants to take notice of the elderly as a valuable resource and enlisting senior citizens for help – not just in volunteer activities, but in creating new careers that allows them to exercise their hard-won experience and expertise – Retail being the best suitable • Citizens at large to be more compassionate when dealing with elderly

  21. New Initiative Eklavya An Employment Exchange for senior citizens • India’s first employment exchange for senior citizens launched by Agewell • Supported by in-house helpline services • Counselors and support staff trained for providing such services • No-Charge Employment Exchange services
