  3. Step 1: • Find a common denominator for your fractions. 53 = 9 4 12 • 41 = 4 3 12 Remember to ask: What is the least common denominator of your two fractions?

  4. Step 2: • Check to see if you can subtract your fractions. 53 = 9 4 12 • 41 = 4 3 12 Can you subtract 9-4? If yes, subtract.
