DOJ Media Campaign • Crime lab submissions up x4 since 2006 • Teens trying heroin up ˃300% since 1995 • More than 75% who try heroin will use again • Campaign: • aimed at young people • goal is to raise awareness of heroin’s destructive power; prevent first time use • one small decision can quickly spiral out of control • resources available for parents, educators, & community advocates as well, both online and in print form

  16. Green Bay PD • Awarded $25,000 • Organized representatives from: • Schools • Businesses • Government agencies • Law Enforcement • Judiciary • Treatment providers • DOC • Politicians • EMS

  17. Green Bay PD • Four pillar approach: • Prevention -Treatment • Enforcement -Harm Reduction • Funds being used to hire Facilitator who will: • develop/implement comprehensive/multi-d approach • ID gaps in services and areas of overlap • coordinate action among subcommittees

  18. DCNAG TF • Requested $25,000 • Coordinated effort (similar to GBPD) • Areas of focus ID’d: • Reducing Access • Reducing inappropriate prescription use • Improving OD intervention • Early intervention drug treatment • Integrate recovery with Mental Health Care and Substance Abuse Prevention

  19. Sheboygan PD • Requested $17,000 • “Multi-disciplinary collaborative approach” to mitigate heroin issues • Previously mentioned orgs but also faith-based • Increase awareness; identify service gaps • Funds will hire facilitator, develop website, produce brochures

  20. Wausau Police Department • Requested $25,000 • “Pushback Against Drug Abuse” campaign • Partnership of 250 people and orgs • Have ID’d 2000 households in high risk neighborhoods • Substance abuse most likely to occur • Intend to raise awareness and reduce burden of substance abuse

  21. Wausau Police Department • Funds will be used to: • Create educational/outreach materials • Send Wausau POs to schools/youth orgs/business groups/community members to conduct Drug ID training • Hire a facilitator
