  2. AMATOXINS • Out of 5000 species of mushrooms in the United States alone, about 100 are poisonous and less than 12 are deadly. • A subgroup of 8 toxic compounds • Treatment involves a high dose of penicillin and often involves hospital care, because of the damaging effects it has on the liver

  3. Toxins • RNA polymerase II (vital enzyme in messanger RNA) • Shuts down protein synthesis • Can shutdown liver and kidneys

  4. Amanitas • Several members of this group contain Amanitin • Amanitin is one of the most deadly poisons in the world • Grown from small puffball looking buttons

  5. False Morels • Contains toxic chemical called Gyromitrin. • A carcinogenic chemical

  6. Side effects • Sever cases of diarrhea • Headaches • Vomiting • Nausea • Dizzinies • Death
