SPARKVT PROGRAM OBSERVATIONS, YEARS 1-3 • SPARK-VT facilitated a shift in mindset from scientific research to scientific research with commercialization potential • PI learning curve: establishing a strong team (business, legal/regulatory, and understanding/appreciating the regulatory process) • Workshops influence better proposals: idea/concept/timeline better defined; better pitch (less science talk and better orientation toward commercialization) • Partnered with campus/state resources: LaunchVT, UVM Office of Technology & Commercialization (OTC), Vermont Center for Emerging Technologies (VCET), Vermont Agency of Commerce & Community Development Office of Creative Economy, Vermont Technology Counsel • Education opportunities: • Expansion of workshops for Faculty, Post Docs, Graduate Students • Entrepreneurial aspect is applicable to most campus disciplines, course and internship opportunities for the School of Business (MBA Students) and CTS (course work on the art and science of the regulatory process) • Division of Continuing Education certificate series • Joint curriculum initiatives: Biomedical/Engineering Research + School of Business + Vermont Law?
