Objectives: • Recognize uses for videoconferencing. • Name components of the video conference equipment and their function. • Identify the buttons on the remote control and use them to perform a variety of functions. • List steps to connect and participate in a videoconference. • Perform steps to prevent problems OSU-COM Center for Rural Health

  5. The Equipment • Screen or Monitor • Computer • Keyboard & Mouse • Other Devices • Camera Unit • Speaker • Microphone Pod • Remote Control OSU-COM Center for Rural Health

Component Functions • Functions of Main Components • Screen or Monitor used to display the image from the far site • Camera Unit sits on top of the monitor and controls the camera • Speaker is used to provide sound to you from the far site (lets you hear what they are saying) • Microphone Pod transmits sound to the far site • If the red light is off the far site can hear what you are saying) • If the red light is on you are muted. • Remote Control is used for all functions including, controlling the camera and sound and connecting to a call. Component Functions • Functions of Peripheral Components • Scan Converter (used connect the computer to the polycom for displaying) • Computer (used to display the PowerPoint slides) • Keyboard and Mouse (controls used to load and move from slide to slide during the presentation) • VCR (optional device used to display VHS recordings on the polycom) OSU-COM Center for Rural Health

The Remote Control Buttons used to control the sound • “Volume” used to increase (right side of button) or decrease (left side of button) sound. • “Mute” when you do not want other site to hear what is being said in near location. Notice microphone icon with  in bottom left screen. NOTE: The button on the microphone pod is also used to mute and unmute. The red light indicates your site is muted. If the red light is NOT on the far site can hear what is being said. OSU-COM Center for Rural Health

The Remote Control Buttons used to control the camera • “Camera” displays external camera sources available, such as primary camera, computer desktop for PowerPoint presentations, document camera for viewing documents, VCR or DVD taped presentations, slide projector, etc. • “Near” and “Far” controls cameras. “Near” controls camera at your location. To control the “Far” camera, distant site permission has to be given in setup. • “Directional Arrows” moves camera in corresponding directions. Use to frame the speaker in the center of the screen monitor. • “Zoom” is used to move the camera in for a closer view or farther away for a larger view. OSU-COM Center for Rural Health

The Remote Control Buttons used to connect or end a call • “Directory” (left-green) button shows the address book. • “Directional Arrows” (center-red) are used to navigate within the address book. • “Select” (center-red) button is use to choose a site to call. • “Call/Hang Up” (top-green) button is used to dial the remote site or end the connection. NOTE: Pressing numbers on the keypad to dial an IP address can also be used to connect to a remote site. Numbers will be displayed as they are typed in. “Dot” button (left center-blue) is required to place the dot. OSU-COM Center for Rural Health

Steps to Connect Using the Codian Bridge • Using the number keys dial the IP address to connect to the auto attendant. • Inside the OSU Telemed network dial 192.168.168.74 • Outside the OSU Telemed network dial 164.58.163.74 • Press “Far” on the remote control • Use the “Down Arrow” on the remote control to scroll to “Rural Health Med Ed #1” • Press the “Right Arrow” on the remote control • Press “#” on the remote control to give you the keypad • Enter the conference pin number: 678 • Press “#” on the remote control to remove the keypad • Press “call/hang-up” when the meeting is over NOTE:The attendant will tell you if you are the first participant. You will hear a tone when others connect. OSU-COM Center for Rural Health

Trouble Preventing Tips • Check all connections • Reset equipment • Reboot camera • Restart scan converter • Reboot computer • Check VCR (if needed) • Adjust the sound • Remote and/or monitor • Frame the subject • Far site (remote) • Near site (scanconverter) If all else fails, CALL SUPPORT Debbie Martin 918-561-8564 OSU-COM Center for Rural Health

Steps to connect Dial the IP address Inside OSU network: 192.168.168.74 Outside OSU network: 164.58.163.74 Press “Far” Arrow down to “RURAL HEALTH MED ED #1” Right arrow to select Press “#” (displays keypad) Enter the conference pin number: 678 Press “#” (keypad disappears) When over press “call/hang-up” Review OSU-COM Center for Rural Health
