  3. Course Offerings • BHAN 336: International Community Health (3 credits) • Service learning component • BHAN 236: Global Health and Physical Activity (3 credits)

  4. International Community Health • The emphasis will be the examination of various community health initiatives in New Zealand. • Students will have the opportunity to observe community health initiatives in action, and compare and contrast those initiatives to those in the United States. • Students will gain hands-on experience and will visit community health organizations. • Finally, students will investigate which of these initiatives, if any, could be used to strengthen programs in the United States

  5. International Community Health • Students will write a couple of papers related to community health initiatives • Students will complete some volunteer hours with a local community health organization • Classroom discussion will be emphasized

  6. BHAN 236: Global Health and Physical Activity • Students will write a paper examining the role physical activity and health play in the lives of Kiwis. • Classroom time will primarily focus on discussions from your experiences and research

  7. Program Itinerary - tentative • We will begin our trip in Christchurch where we will stay for about 3 weeks.

  9. Sports • Rugby • Soccer • Cricket – the National Training Center • Golf

  12. Activities • Sea kayaking

  13. Activities • Maori

  14. Activities • Hiking – 3-day backpacking trip Going from sea level to 5,000 feet

  15. Activities • Glacier

  16. Activities • Whale watch

  17. Activities • Swim with the dolphins

  18. Activities • Sledging/River Surfing

  19. Activities • Whitewater rafting

  20. Activities • zorbing

  21. Activities - White Island

  22. Activities • Blackwater rafting

  23. What will it cost? • Fees include all excursions, flights, lodging, many meals • Estimated costs at $6000-$6500 per student, plus tuition • Spending money – don’t forget your spending money!

  24. IGS Scholarships • All applicants will automatically be considered for both a need-based and a merit based IGS scholarship. • Results will be announced shortly after the application deadline & before you must commit. • http://www.udel.edu/global/studyabroad/information/scholarships.html

  25. Expectations • Students will conduct themselves as adults at all times and be good representatives of UD and the US • You are earning 6 credits and you will do 6 credits worth of work

  26. Expectations • Anyone showing up with alcohol on their breath for any of the classes will be sent home at your cost • You will be on time for all scheduled classes and departures

  27. Deadlines • WE will close early! The application deadline is being set for April 19th.
